The prevalence of news blogs and websites provides the public with hundreds if not thousands of resources to be informed. Professional journalists now compete for stories and audiences with citizen journalists who report unrestricted from the oversight of news organizations. But is there information accurate and balanced? Can citizen journalism be trusted and in that vein can professional journalism? Readers and viewers need to be able to tell the difference between reliable publications and opinion based sites. In order to be best informed, the public needs to know the credentials, reliability, agenda and goals of journalists, whether citizen or professional, to determine which sources can be trusted for their news.
